I've gotten this question about Porta-Hang a lot.  It's a good question, one that I try to answer for everyone that asks.  I've tested Porta-Hangs all over the US, in many locations, hotels, people's homes and customers, so we know that it works most everywhere for most people.  And if it doesn't, that's OK, send it back and you'll be refunded.   This blog post will be a living post, where I'll continue to add photos of door frames and whether its likely to work for Porta-Hang.  Check the fit guide on our website and remember the weight limit is 200 lbs.  ...

I remember climbing at my local center on a hot day, working on a slabby slopey project where it felt like every time I tried and fell, I had to get out my brush and clean every damn hold again. It was annoying to have to spend as much time cleaning as I did climbing, but at least it was forcing me to rest between tries (something I’m terrible getting myself to do). I’d taken a buddy under my wing, he was in that early phase where people just love to throw themselves up the wall constantly for about 45...

Hey everyone, this week we have a guest blogger and super rad Porta-Gang member Shivani Goberdhan.  A few months ago Shivani showed me through her eyes the damage that plastic waste causes to the beaches and wildlife of Hawaii. I looked at our own business, both what we send to customers and what we throw away, and realized that we could and must make a...

It’s fair to say that unless you’re born with a brain like Alex Honnold’s, there’s something inherently scary about rock-climbing – that’s why every cheesy office has a picture of someone free-climbing a big wall with a motivational quote under it, usually about the power of self-motivation or being your best self. Although I could never do what Honnold does (God love him, there is something seriously strange about how his mind works) personally I don’t find being high off the ground particularly scary. What gives me the cold sweats is not falling a long way, but jamming a couple...

I’m not much of a show off.  That one guy at the gym who takes off his shirt as soon as it gets above freezing and screams when doing a big move to make sure everyone at the center knows it, drives me crazy. But after I’ve worked hard at a skill and improved, it’s still nice to show off just a little how much better I am than I used to be. Who doesn’t want that? But it’s not the reaction at some crazy bat-hang or massive cave I remember the most but showing a friend who was new...
